Isobel Ballsdon was elected onto the Council in May 2006 at the By-Election caused by Rob Wilson MP standing down from his Thames Ward councillor role.

Isobel was involved in two notable campaigns before becoming a councillor: the 'Now Out Of Catchment' (NOOC) sibling campaign in 2001 which closed a loophole that failed to protect NOOC siblings from being split between primary schools after changing the catchment areas; and the Kings Meadow Campaign, which lobbied English Heritage to get a Grade II listing for the Baths. Isobel was the Vice Chairman of KMC which protected the western end of the Meadow from being sold for the development of a large private 6-storey hotel, apartments and conference facilities.

Since her election, Isobel has been the Conservative Group spokesman on a number of different Portfolios: Children's Services, Education, Environment and Planning . In May 2010 she took on the chairmanship of both the Planning Committee and the Education & Children's Services Scrutiny Panel.

Currently Isobel sits on the Adult Social Care, Children's Services & Education Committee (ACE), Planning Committee and SACRE (which decides how religious education is delivered to Reading's pupils).

Isobel is chairman of the Mapledurham Playing Fields Management Committee - highly appropriately as she used to run 'Escape' (the parent & toddler group held in Mapledurham Pavilion). She is the Chairman of Governors at The Avenue Special School, where her mother was a physiotherapist. In recent years The Avenue has been turned around and transformed into one of the top special schools in the country, gaining four "outstanding" Ofsted report ratings.

Isobel lives in Caversham with her husband and two children. As well as enjoying helping people solve problems, she enjoys gardening, music, sailing, swimming, walking and writing her website.
