Reporting Spillages
If you encounter spilled liquids or materials on the road that you think could be dangerous or hazardous, please report it to us or the Emergency Services on the numbers set out below. Unless you know that the material is harmless DO NOT TOUCH THE MATERIAL, AND TRY AND AVOID BREATHING IN FUMES OR DUST. If the spilled materials are causing traffic problems, please CALL THE POLICE using 999.
LIQUIDS. For spillages of liquids from tankers, other vehicles or drums CALL 999 and ASK FOR THE FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICES immediately. If the liquids are anywhere near drains or watercourses, please also call THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY using their Freephone number 0800 80-70-60, as they are equipped to contain pollution incidents.
SOLID MATERIALS. For spillages of solid materials such as powders or granular materials on public land in Reading, call the Council on our Freephone number found in the Contact This Service box, above and to the right, and we will visit the site and remove the material, or contact the emergency services.
