LED street lighting project

We have received £6.9m from the Department of Transport's Challenge Fund towards a programme to upgrade the street lighting in the borough to use energy efficient LED lighting.

Over the next two years we will replace 11,329 non-LED street lights, 2,533 old or incompatible columns and 2,578 sign lights. We will also replace 890 powered bollards with solar bollards.

Modernising our street lighting should cut energy levels by over 50% whilst improving the lighting levels. This should save us money and reduce our carbon footprint.
