Bulmershe Allotments
A number of years ago the Bulmershe allotment site, between Mays Lane and Bideford Close was reduced in size. The land to the east of the site has now not been gardened or cut for a number of years and is consequently developing into an area of natural scrub and woodland.
A number of people walk through this site to access the adjacent woods and recreational open space. The mix of scrub, woodland and open grass supports this use. It also provides valuable habitat for reptiles that are found here, and in the adjacent cultivated area of allotments.
We are about to undertake work on a 3 year cyclical basis to:
- Allow the woodland on the edges of the site to develop
- Maintain a mix of scrub and grass needed by the existing fauna
- Keep the existing paths open
- Allow options for use as allotments and open space to be considered in the future.
If no work is undertaken the area will become densely wooded, the existing valuable habitat will be lost and the area is likely to be less useable by the local community.
The management plan outlining the work will be undertaking in the 2nd half of February and in future years can be downloaded below. If you require more information or have any queries please contact us using the Contact This Service details to the top right of this page.
