Council Continues to Provide Free Swimming Over School Holiday

A free swimming initiative for Reading's under 16's is to continue throughout the school summer holiday.

The Government recently announced that as part of its spending review of all public services, it will no longer be able to continue in its free swimming offer for the under 16's and over 60s after July 31st 2010.

However, Reading Borough Council has pledged to continue to offer free swimming to all children under 16 in the borough (with a Your Reading Passport), until the end of this year's school summer holiday.

The free swim offer will continue at all of Reading Borough Council owned sport and leisure centres; Arthur Hill Pool and Fitness Studios, Palmer Park Sports Stadium, Highdown Sports Centre, Meadway Sports Centre, AcademySport Leisure Centre and Central Pool.

Charges still apply at Rivermead Leisure Complex unless children hold a concessionary Your Reading Passport, in which case they can continue to swim for free at all swimming pools (at off peak times only).

People over 60 who have a Your Reading Passport concession card are still welcome to swim for free at off-peak times, as are those on low incomes and disabled residents.
