Sustainable development & environmental policies
Agenda 21 is the international treaty agreed at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992. It was signed by over 170 countries in a huge show of commitment to a world-wide programme of action to help the world to develop more sustainably in the future. Reading Borough Council is fully committed to the ideas of Agenda 21 and to developing a local Agenda 21 for the Town.
We are making this happen through schemes such as Farmers Markets, pollution monitoring and developing the Council's environmental policies. We also provide environmental education and activities for schools and all sections of the community.
