The council's Art and Theatres Service run the Hexagon, 21 South Street Arts Centre and Arts Development.

The Hexagon is council-owned and one of the region's premier performance venues. It attracts star names from classical theatre and opera to pop music and children's shows and audiences in excess of 250,000 people each year

A combination of alternative theatre, music and comedy has turned the council-run venue 21 South Street Art Centre into the hub of Reading's thriving arts scene and earned it a national reputation for contemporary performance with comedy being especially popular

The Arts Development Team uses the arts to make a positive difference to life in Reading. The service runs a variety of community based projects, getting local people involved in the arts or commissioning improvements to their area.
