Animal welfare licensing

Complete our online application form if you:

  • run an animal boarding business (applies to cats and dogs only)
  • breed dogs for sale
  • run a pet shop
  • keep a dangerous wild animal
  • run a riding establishment

All animal welfare licences expire on 31 December, even if they were issued part way through the year.

Dog home boarding charges 

If you are starting your business part way through the year you will not have to pay the full annual fee. You will have to make one payment for the amount of months you will hold a licence (they expire on 31 December), contact the Animal Warden ( to organise this.
