The 1976 block buster film "The Eagle has Landed" based on the best selling book by Jack Higgins, was filmed in the beautiful setting of the Mapledurham Estate.

The estate is therefore the perfect backdrop for over 600 re-enactors from all over the country who will set up camp for the week end.
Thirty living history displays and more than 100 military vehicles will be on display as if it were World War 2 again. Army trucks, tanks, WW2 amphibious craft and cars will convey the troops around the site whilst the camp displays will show how life was during that time.
Authentic battles will take place each day and musicians and dancers from the period will entertain the troops.
Christine Wallace from the Great British Bake Off will be demonstrating war time ration recipes and sharing stories from that time with Jill Vallis.. She will have Memory Board for visitors to add their own memories or family stories. Her cookware kitchen will no doubt be a reminiscing opportunity for our older visitors and can be shared anew with the younger ones.
The Mapledurham Watermill will be open each day where visitors will be able to see the flour being milled and sample the baking from the millers wife. The old Church which was pivotal in the movie will have guided tours over the weekend. There will be children's activities, traders and street food.
Mapledurham House will not be open to the public this year but still a great opportunity to come and see round the glorious estate.

Displays:

The only show in the country to have wartime amphibious vehicles in operation.

See them carrying troops onto the water and taking part in the battle for the Mill.
Guest appearance for 2018 - Old Phyllis, the up-gunned 76mm Sherman tank that featured in the block buster movie "Fury" starring Brad Pitt. Fresh from a 3 year nut-and-bolt restoration, come and see her in all her glory.
Many re-enactors who don't have displays "stroll" around the event in period uniforms and dress, home guard, British and American generals, RAF, American soldiers and flyers, free French army, scouts, commandos etc.
The groups will have period vehicles on their displays as well as period tentage equipment and weapons.

"This year we will be having a flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, in honour of the aircraft

that defended these shores during the Battle of Britain"
