The Reading branch of Berkshire Family History Society will be restarting our 2018 monthly meetings, after the summer break, on Thursday 27th September, when Peter Christian to give a talk entitled Irish Family History Resources Online. The Irish genealogy world was somewhat slow to embrace the Internet, but the last few years have seen a massive expansion in offerings from all quarters — official, voluntary, and commercial. In addition to the (free) Irish census site, there is an increasing body of church records, both Catholic and Protestant, online. There are plenty of resources, too, to provide help and orientation, especially for those with little first-hand knowledge of Ireland's geography and genealogy. This talk will provide an overview of the range of resources available online, with a detailed look at the civil registration, census and church records available on the web.
We meet at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 280 Meadway, Tilehurst RG30 4PE. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.45pm start. All are welcome - free entry, but donations gratefully received. We hope to see you there. Keep an eye on the Society website for events at other branches and in our Centre for Heritage and Family History, www.berksfhs.org.uk, or pop into the Centre for Heritage and Family History, 2nd Floor, Reading Central Library, Abbey Square, Reading RG1 3BQ.
