Food Safety in Catering (CIEH Level 1)

Target Group

All staff handling low-risk or wrapped food, such as serving prepared food, or back of house staff such as kitchen porters.

Please note that staff whose main role is preparation, cooking and handling of food - or who supervise food preparation must attend Level 2 or 3 food safety training (full day or half-day refresher).  For this, Reading Borough Council staff should apply through Workforce Development while other staff should apply and pay direct.

Course Content

  • Introduction to food safety
  • Personal hygiene
  • Cleaning - keeping the work area clean
  • Contamination - your role in reducing contamination

There is a compulsory examination and successful candidates will receive a certificate from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health approximately 6 weeks from completion of the course. You must bring along photographic id. (eg. driving licence, work pass) to sit the exam.
