Target group

Staff supporting people with a diagnosis of epilepsy and require emergency medication to prevent status epilepticus. Annual refresher required.


To provide an understanding of epilepsy and the skills required to care for patients with the condition and how and when to administer emergency medication.

Course outcomes

By the end of the course you will:

  • have increased knowledge of epilepsy and its treatment
  • be familiar with the signs and symptoms of a seizure and its management
  • have received instructions on how to administer of emergency medication
  • have received instructions on the use of appropriate documentation
  • be informed of the emergency procedures should the emergency medication fail to control the seizure
