Building Control

The Building Regulations apply to building work in England & Wales and set standards for the design and construction of buildings to ensure the safety and health for people in or about those buildings. They also include requirements to ensure that fuel and power is conserved and facilities are provided for people, including those with disabilities, to access and move around inside buildings.

Building Regulations approval is a separate matter from obtaining planning permission for your work. Similarly, receiving any planning permission which your work may require is not the same as taking action to ensure that it complies with the Building Regulations.

We are ISO 9002 registered which means the British Standards Institute audit our service every six months to make sure we consistently provide a high standard of service.

We provide a full advisory service on all Building Control realted matters. The services we provide are: 

Pre application advice- We will have a look at any project prior to submission of an application and give free advice on complying with national standards for construction and lead you through the Building Regulation process.

Plans Examination- We will carry out a full and detailed check of your application and provide a concise list of any information required or where the regulations have not been met.

Site inspections- We will carry out as many inspections as you require and are necessary to make sure the works comply with the regulations.

Dangerous Structures- We deal with dangerous buildings and structures 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure public safety within the town. To report a dangerous structure please phone 0118 939 0449 in office hours or 0118 939 0900 out side office hours.

Demolitions- We control the demolition of buildings within the town.

Means of escape from flats- We make sure that there are adequate means of escape from flats in accordance with Section 72 of the Building Act 1984.

Seminars- We provide seminars to architects, builders and other organisations within the area on Building Regulations and related subjects
