Site Allocations Document

In 2008, the Council started to prepare a Site Allocations Development Plan Document (SAD), which was intended to be one of the documents that makes up the Reading Borough Local Development Framework. It was to allocate land for a range of uses to support the spatial strategy for the Borough, which is set out in the Core Strategy. It was also to include sites for development as well as sites for protection and other designations.

The Council undertook a process of identifying potential sites early in 2008, and consultation on Issues and Options started on 30 October 2008. The Issues and Options document is available to view here, in several parts, along with accompanying documents.  In October 2009, the Council also consulted on a number of new sites that had been suggested (the New Sites and Progress Update Paper), as well as a more detailed Sustainability Appraisal of the Options.  These documents are also available to view here.

In order to save resources, the Site Allocations Document has now been combined with the Development Management Document to form the Sites and Detailed Policies Document (SDPD).  This document will fulfil the function of the SAD, in allocating sites for development, protection and specific policy designations, but will also include detailed policies for determining planning applications.  A full draft of this document, taking into account comments received on the SAD during 2008 and 2009, is expected to be published for consultation in February 2010.  Please see the Sites and Detailed Policies Document page for more detail.
