What is the Local Development Framework? In 2004, changes to the system of preparing development plans were introduced in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. Among a number of other changes, Local Plans were replaced by Local Development Frameworks (LDF). Whilst the Local Plans were generally single documents containing the planning policies for a local authority area, a Local Development Framework can be thought of as a ’folder’ of various planning policy documents. The page on Current and Latest Local Development Framework Documents explains the new system in greater detail.
Where are we in the process? We have adopted our Statement of Community Involvement in July 2006 and our Core Strategy in January 2008. Work is underway on the Reading Central Area Action Plan and Site Allocations Document.
