Air Quality

Clean air is essential for our health, quality of life and the environment. Air pollution is not only harmful to human health but may also have harmful effects on plants and animals as well corroding materials and buildings.

Air quality across the UK today is generally very good, long gone are the smogs of the 1950’s when smoke from coal fires and factory chimneys dominated our towns and cities, however today we a faced with different issues regarding air pollution.

We are lucky in Reading as we don’t have any large-scale heavy industry in the borough, the main source of air pollution comes from traffic.

The following pages give information of how we regularly monitor the air that we breathe and the measures we put in place to reduce the amount of air pollution in the borough.
