Monitoring Air Quality in Reading

The Council has a number of continuous monitoring stations which measure in real time the levels of different pollutants at a variety of places across the Borough. As well as this we also operate a substantial non-automatic network across the borough looking at NO2 levels.

The main air quality monitoring station is located within the grounds of the cemetery at Cemetery Junction and monitors a wide range of pollutants. This is an urban background monitoring station, which gives an indication of background levels of pollutants in Reading.

The second is located on Caversham Road. This is a roadside location that monitors levels of both nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and small particulates (PM10).

The third monitoring station was installed on Kings Road during the summer of 2007. This station is a roadside location monitoring NO2 levels.

Further continuous monitoring stations may be added to the network in future.

Using the links below you can now access up to date data from the continuous monitoring stations, and check the levels being recorded by the diffusion tubes.
