Warden Service
Reading’s Warden Service is now based at Lyon Square on the Dee Park estate although they patrol borough-wide.
The Warden’s role is to help:
- Reduce crime and the fear of crime by being a physical presence on patrol. They watch out for known offenders and report repeat offenders to the appropriate agencies.
- Care for the environment by reporting fly tipping, fly posting, graffiti and abandoned vehicles.
- Reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour.
- Deter drug dealing by being a physical presence and reporting dealers to the police. They also sign-post drug users to relevant drug support agencies, if they want assistance.
They also:
- Work with a variety of youth projects and schools interacting with young people, using diversionary tactics to prevent future criminal behaviour.
- Spend time with the elderly and vulnerable with the view to supporting the community and help to promote social inclusion for all so the community can help itself.
The nine wardens are managed by two managers. The wardens have been paired up and cover specific areas. Contact details are above.
The Wardens also operate City Safe Radio link, in the town centre, allowing close links with shops and pubs via the use of 2-way radio network. The scheme has a direct link with the town’s cctv control room. The scheme has been incorporated into the successful Pubwatch system that allows bars to communicate with each other enabling the ‘banned from one, banned from all’ system.
All Wardens are involved in Neighbourhood Policing and work closely with Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGs) and Anti-Social Behaviour Action Groups (ASBAGs).
If you want to report a problem, ask a question or make a comment or suggestion please feel free to contact the wardens.
