Houses in Multiple Occupation

The team deals with privately rented properties to ensure they meet legal standards and that landlords are providing safe and healthy homes for their tenants. Reading has approximately 3000 Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO). We liaise with Social Services and Housing when dealing with accommodation occupied by asylum seekers or homeless people. The Council has developed a nationally recognised Landlord Accreditation Scheme. The scheme is voluntary and has been included in a good practice guide.
