Doorstep Selling
If you, or someone you know is currently victim of a doorstep cold call (as described below), contact Trading Standards using the “Contact this Service” link on the right hand side. On the online Contact Form please put “Emergency - Doorstep Cold Call” in the subject heading. There are many goods and services that are available from genuine traders who act within the law using the direct selling methods such as leaving a catalogue behind for you to look at in your own time or introducing you to a product or service which you may find useful.
But there are criminals out there that use “cold calling” as a way of getting into your home and then make up any excuse to get you to pay for goods and services that you don’t need.
There are not many things worse than feeling forced to part with money in your own home for something you are not sure about.
The criminals involved in doorstep crime are very persuasive. You will often not even be sure of what you’ve agreed to, but when it comes to handing over the money things can turn nasty.
