Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Emergencies (CBRN)
CBRN
Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Emergencies are infrequent but can occur. The causes of such emergencies are wide ranging and include:
- Accidents at a chemical sites and industrial facilities
- Road traffic accident involving a chemical tanker
- Outbreaks of infectious disease
- Terrorist related CBRN release
Reading Borough Council prepares for such emergencies in partnership with other agencies, by participating in statutory meetings with the Emergency Services and others as part of its duties under the Civil Contingencies Act. It prepares emergency plans to deal with the effects of such incidents.
At Thames Valley Level, Reading Borough Council works with partner agencies to coordinate efforts and reduce duplication.
