Education and Learning
Our services for children and young people have been experiencing rapid change and continue to develop and improve. In April 2005, we created an integrated Education and Children’s Services Directorate, to deliver the ‘Change for Children’ agenda. The Directorate is a lead partner in the Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership, which consulted on and published a first Children and Young People’s Plan in April 2006. This is the key strategic document for children in Reading. It outlines a vision for the support and safeguarding of children and young people, aiming to keep them safe, healthy, able to enjoy and achieve, and to participate and achieve economic well-being.
The plan sets out a framework for services for children and young people from birth to 19, focusing on both the universal services which every child uses, and on more targeted services for those children with additional needs. The Education and Children’s Services Directorate work is directed by this plan. The plan was reviewed and refreshed during 2007 and this refresh is available for download under the Priorities and Plans for Education and Children section on the left-hand side of this page.
