Equality, Achievement and Languages - Supporting Schools and Young People
What We Do
This specialist service provides schools and other educators with support to ensure that all our young people achieve well. Some of the services we offer are:
- Teaching support for:
- pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL)
- some children and young people from ethnic minority heritages who are at risk of underachieving
- Gypsy, Roma and Traveller heritage pupils
- Support for pupils who are at early stages of learning EAL, including assessments in English and other languages and bilingual support
- Information and advice with regard to parents and communities from diverse backgrounds
- Advice, guidance and professional development on race equality
- Programmes supporting parents to help get them involved with their child's education
- Work with community schools and groups to help young people keep learning their first languages and do well at school
- Information, guidance and central and school based training for school leaders, teaching and non teaching staff

The work of the service is carried out by very experienced teachers and specialist support staff.
