Food Safety
We at Consumer Protection are responsible for ensuring that food manufactured, sold and consumed within the borough is safe to eat and of the quality demanded.
We inspect all food businesses to assess compliance with hygiene, safety, compositional and labelling reqirements and can verify this with microbiological or compositional sampling . We investigate complaints about food businesses and food purchased within the borough. We advise new and existing businesses of their legal obligations with respect to food. We run monthly training courses for food handlers about food hygiene and also about Safer Food Better Business. Most recently we have published food safety scores of food premises on this website and at the food premises to give food consumers an opportunity to make informed choices as to where they eat.
