Reading’s Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) was set up in April 2006. The purpose of the LSCB is to ensure joined-up working between multiple agencies and effectively co-ordinate safeguarding for all children and young people in Reading.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is a shared responsibility and a high priority for Reading agencies. It is the process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development and ensuring they grow up with safe and effective care that enables them to have the best life chances and enter adulthood successfully. Reading’s LSCB has assumed responsibility for co-ordinating activity and ensuring the effectiveness of local work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.

On this page you will find links to a variety of documents that will give you information about the LSCB and its work. This page will be updated on a regular basis. You can also find the Berkshire Local Safeguarding Children Board’s Child Protection Procedures linked below. These procedures should be used with immediate effect and replace all previous child protection procedures currently in use across Berkshire.

The Reading LSCB meets every two months and the terms of reference can be found at the link below. The LSCB business plan will be added to this page when available.

The following agencies are represented on the Reading LSCB:

  • Reading Borough Council Education and Children’s Services
  • West of Berkshire Primary Care Trust
  • Royal Berkshire and Battle Hospital
  • Thames Valley Police
  • National Offender Management
  • Children and Families Court Advisory Support Service
  • Connexions
