Supporting People
The Supporting People programme aims to help vulnerable people to live more independently and maintain their tenancies. It provides housing related support to prevent problems that lead to hospitalisation, institutional care or homelessness and to help those leaving an institutionalised environment.
The sort of support provided by Supporting People include help access Welfare Benefits, helping people develop the skills they need to live alone and manage their housing and providing advice and advocacy. The services may be provided for a short-term until the person feels confident to manage without support or on a continuous basis as in sheltered housing.
Although the scheme is funded by the Government, services are developed locally by the Supporting People Team in partnership with local statutory, private and and voluntary agencies
