Homeless or at risk of losing your home

There is a high demand for all types of accommodation in Reading.

Contact us immediately if you think you are at risk of being made homeless. The sooner you contact the housing advice team, the more likely we will be able to help. We run drop in sessions at the Civic Offices from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (Wednesdays 12 to 5pm). If you have an emergency out-of-hours, call us on 01344 786 512.

The drop-in service has two tiers:

  1. Triage - a 10 to 20 minute assessment to understand your situation and collect your basic information. The officer you meet may be able to resolve your query there and then, if not you will be referred to a Duty Officer.
  2. Duty - a full housing assessment, which can take up to an hour.

We will:

  • provide you with clear, concise and realistic written advice on the day of your assessment
  • aim to prevent you from becoming homeless in all cases, with a clear action plan agreed by you
  • provide you with comprehensive information to enable you to solve your own housing situation
  • ensure our staff are trained to provide you with high quality advice

Prevention options

If you are at risk of homelessness in the next 28 days we will offer to take a pdf icon homelessness application [126kb].

Rough sleepers

We commission St Mungo's to support rough sleepers to find accommodation. This can include housing through the pdf icon Homelessness Pathway [761kb]. You can report rough sleeping by email or can get help and advice if you - or someone else - are rough sleeping, using Streetlink.

You can find out about local services offering help and advice on housing, health, benefits, training and employment in our pdf icon Street Guide. [16Mb]
