Wardens
At the moment Reading Wardens are divided into two sections:
Community Wardens
The “blue” wardens can be seen on many of our estates and were introduced to help people feel safer by reducing crime, the fear of crime and to help build communities. The Wardens are an integral part of the community, arranging and assisting at a variety of local events, assisting in schools and working closely with youth and community.
If you would like further information on the Community Wardens or wish to pass on information please contact them on the number opposite.
Street Wardens
The “red” wardens work across the Borough and town centre with the police, various council departments and local Neighbourhood Action Groups (NAGs). They are usually the first point of contact regarding anti-social behaviour, ranging from youths through to street drinkers, rough sleepers, drug users and drug problems, fly tipping, graffiti and abandoned vehicles. They work with the appropriate service to help tackle the problem. They also work with PCSOs, assisting with information and helping with joint projects to deter crime and the fear of crime. The Street Wardens help in community, promoting social inclusion, working with youth and youth services and visiting the elderly or vulnerable for welfare checks.
For further information please contact the Wardens on the number opposite.
