Safety In Rented Accommodation
Gas and Electrical Safety
Your landlord is responsible for the safety of gas and electrical appliances supplied in your home.
To minimiste the risk of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning he should arrange for an annual gas safety check to be carried out by a CORGI tradesman. He should send you copies of the safety checks within 28 days of the check. See Gas Safety - the Law and "Carbon Monoxide Poisoning" below for more details.
Your landlord is not responsible for your own appliances.
Goods Supplied
Your landlord is responsible for the safety of furnishings and furniture - anything he supplies must comply with the requirements of the furniture and Furnishings (Fire) Safety Regulations 1988
- unless he is letting on a temporary basis while he is away from home or unless
- the goods were made before 1950. See "The safety of goods supplied in rented accommodation" below for more details.
