News feeds

Our latest news is available in a format called RSS. You can access this information with either a news reader, called aggregators, or by adding the RSS feed to your own website.

RSS Readers

A program known as a feed reader or aggregator can check RSS-enabled webpages on behalf of any user and display any press releases or articles that it finds.

Many newsreaders are available as standalone programs or extensions of existing programs such as web browsers. Web-based feed readers and news aggregators require no software installation and make the your feed available on any computer with Web access. RSS feeds typically are linked via an orange rectangle with the letters XML or RSS.

Once you have set up your newsreader, you can subscribe to our news feed. To do this, first copy this URL - http://www.reading.gov.uk/feed.asp?type=news&format=rss2. Then follow the instructions for your particular newsreader and paste this location wherever it asks for the location of the service to which you wish to subscribe.

Adding an RSS Feed to your Website

If you have a website you can include news from Reading Borough Council on it - for free! Have the latest news headlines from the Council appearing automatically on your website. This keeps the content on your website fresh and allows your visitors to read the latest local news.

To add our news feed to your site you need to copy some code into your webpage. If you have no XML or programming experience there are free websites that can create this code for you.
