Reading Borough Council offer a chargeable ID checking service to assist landlords in the verification and identification of prospective tenants.

Under Section 22 of the Immigration Act 2014, a landlord offering rental accommodation without undertaking identification checks could be fined up to £3,000 per tenant.

The TRUST ME process performs a number of security checks on biometric documents and officially verifies if they are genuine. A copy of the report is then provided electronically to the prospective landlord.
