Forbury Gardens Restoration Project

Celebrating the past, enhancing the future
Reading Borough Council was awarded £2.13 million by the heritage Lottery Fund to restore the historic features of the Gardens and to improve safety and access to visitors.
The final scheme was developed in consultation with interested groups and local residents. This included the restoration of the bandstand, the Maiwand Lion, the ornamental fountain, the garden walls and gateways and specialist conservation work to the Abbey Ruins.
The Gardens re-opened on 14 May 2005.
