| Description | A natural open hilly space with
conservation grassland cut as summer meadow. The park
is well hidden behind gardens and two allotment sites.
Woodchipped path under beech and lime avenues open
onto wide pathways, which are mown for walkers giving
wonderful views across the River Thames to Mapledurham
Woods.
Kentwood Copse is a small woodland adjoining Arthur Newbery.

| Wildlife | Plenty of cover for birds in mature
hedges, small woodland with bluebells and anemone and
copse and scrubby areas. Longer conservation grassland
should ensure a variety of wild flowers. A small
stream adjoins the grassland. Main area of wood lies
in the southeast corner of the park which is unmanaged
and in scrubby condition. 2 small copses in the centre
of the park. Main specimen trees include horse
chestnut, oak, hawthorn, red chestnut, ash, purple
beech, cherry, larch.

| History | One of Reading's oldest parks this was
once part of Kentwood Common. Hollows in the park
remains of chalk and clay pits, the area having been a
thriving clay extraction and pottery industry. Arthur
Newbury Donated this land and other plots in Tilehurst
to Reading in 1932.
