New Local Plan

We are working on producing a new Local Plan, which will replace our current development plans (the Core Strategy, Reading Central Area Action Plan and Sites and Detailed Policies Document) with a new plan setting out how Reading will develop up to 2036.

Issues and Options

Between January and March 2016, we undertook a pdf icon consultation on Issues and Options [20Mb] which is the first stage of the plan. This included a pdf icon summary leaflet [524kb] and a pdf icon sustainability appraisal [4Mb], which covers the effects of the policy on environmental, social and economic objectives.

The consultation ran from 22 January to 7 March 2016 and is now closed.  A pdf icon Statement of Consultation [10Mb] has been published. Council responses to the comments are set out in the pdf icon list of responses to issues and options representations [1Mb].

Draft Local Plan

Following on from Issues and Options, consultation on a Draft Local Plan began on 1 May 2017, and lasts until 5pm on 14 June 2017. The pdf icon Draft Local Plan [11Mb] is available to view on this page, together with a brief pdf icon summary leaflet [168kb]. The plan is accompanied by the following documents, also available for consultation:

Details of how to respond are set out in the Draft Local Plan and summary leaflet.

A copy of the plan is also available to view in the Civic Offices, Bridge Street, Reading between 9am and 5pm on weekdays, and in Reading Borough libraries during library opening hours.

You may also wish to attend one of our drop-in events to talk about the Local Plan with a planning officer in more detail. There is no need to let us know if you wish to attend beforehand. These will be held at the Civic Offices, Bridge Street, RG1 2LU in the main reception on:

  • Monday 15 May - 2 to 7pm
  • Tuesday 23 May - 1 to 6pm
