Industrial Action Thursday 10 July

News Article

Industrial action by public sector workers tomorrow (Thursday July 10th) is expected to affect a number of Council services.

Reading Borough Council is expecting disruption to normal services as a result of the one day strike. Many will be running a skeleton service, although the Council is working hard to minimise disruption where possible.

The Council will not know the level of disruption until the day of the strike itself. Reading residents are therefore being advised to be aware of possible disruption and are advised not to carry out any of their Council business on Thursday if it can be avoided.

If there is any disruption to bin collections, Streetcare staff will attempt to clear all domestic waste as a priority. Should any other waste not be collected on the day staff will catch up any backlog as quickly as possible.

A number of schools across the borough have notified the Council that they will be completely or partially closed on the day.  Please click on the link to the right of the page for further information.

If residents and businesses need to visit or telephone the Council they should only do this if it is something that cannot wait until the following day - such as children's or adult social care and homelessness - where cover will be provided. For other services, the Council cannot guarantee the availability or response of the service on July 10.
