Taxis

There are two types of taxi:

• Hackney Carriages (black cabs) which can be hailed in the street or operate from taxi ranks. Fares are set by the Council
• Private Hire Vehicles which can only operate on a pre-booked basis. Fares are agreed between the driver and the customer.

Both Hackney Carriages and Private Hire vehicles are required to carry assistance dogs accompanying a passenger without additional charge

All new Hackney carriages are wheelchair accessible and should be equipped with ramps and it is a regulation that all new Hackney Carriage drivers are trained in the use of ramps and restraints for carrying disabled passengers.
