Environmental Permits

Pollution Prevention and Control is a regulatory regime for controlling pollution from certain industrial activities. From 6th April 2008 it has been incorporated into the framework of the Environmental Permitting Regulations.

The industrial activities controlled by EPR are split into three categories:

  1. Part A(1) - Regulated by the Environment Agency - These are potentially the most polluting activities and are regulated for for emissions such as air, land, water and other environmental considerations.
  2. Part A(2) - Regulated by Local Authorities - Lesser polluting activities regulated for emissions such as air, land, water and other environmental considerations.
  3. Part B - Regulated by Local Authorities - These are the least polluting and are regulated for emissions to air only (with the exception of some solvent processes).
