Children Missing Education

All children and young people should be receiving a formal education from the term following their fifth birthday until the last Friday in June in the academic year in which they reach the age of 16. This may include an approved programme of home education. Young people who started secondary education in September 2008 must remain in some form of education or training until the academic year of their 17 birthday.

Research shows that children who do not have formal edcuation are more at risk of:

  • Physical harm and exploitation
  • Substance abuse
  • Anti-social behaviour
  • Crime
  • Illegal employment

All children deserve the same opportunities.

If you think a child is missing education for any reason, which maybe one of the following

  • they have not got a school place
  • are not allowed to go to school
  • not attending school,
