Secondary School Admissions September 2012

Application process for children starting secondary school in September 2012

Who should apply?

Parents and carers of children born between 1 September 2000 and 31 August 2001 or are currently in Year 6, who are seeking a place in a state school and have not already applied.

How to apply?

If you live in Reading Borough (i.e. you pay your Council Tax to Reading), you must apply as soon as possible by completing the late application form below.  If you live in another local authority you must apply to that authority even if you are seeking a place in a Reading school. Contact information for neighbouring local authorities can be found under Related Information to the top right of this page (Useful Weblinks for School Admissions).

How your application will be considered?

Late applications will not be processed until after 15 March 2012. It may not be possible to offer a place at your preferred school(s) as the school may not have places available. If that is the case your child's name will be added to the waiting list. You will be entitled to submit an appeal.

What happens next for applications received before 31 October 2011?

  • 1 March 2012 outcome of applications published - for applications received online emails sent out. Offer letter posted to all applicants.
  • 1 March - 31 December 2012 waiting lists held for over-subscribed schools
  • 15 March 2012 deadline to accept place offered  - acceptance form enclosed in offer letter to be returned.
  • 15 March 2012 late applications processed
  • 30 March 2012 deadline to submit appeals. Appeals submitted for Reading schools will be heard between the 27 April and 15 June 2012.
