Landfill Waste Bin - Grey
The council collects one grey wheeled bin of mixed rubbish from every household once every two weeks*
What CAN go in your grey bin?
- Plastic fruit punnets
- Margarine tubs
- Toothpaste tubes
- Yoghurt pots
- Crisp packets
- Bread bags
- Plastic trays from vegetables, fruit, meat, etc
- Biscuit wrappers
- Roll-on deodorants
- General rubbish
- and everything else not accepted in the red and green bins or at glass and other neighbourhood recycling banks.
Tips to keep your bin clean:
- Make sure you wrap food waste before putting it into your bin
- Keep the lid of your bin closed
- Give the inside of your bin a wash every now and then. If you can't manage this yourself, there are companies who'll do it for you.
Please take any glass bottles or jars to one of our recycling sites. Click on the 'Where Can I Recycle' link in the 'Related Information' box above for a list of sites.
Visit the Love Food Hate Waste website (see link below) for more information about how you can reduce the amount of food waste you put in your grey bin.
If there is waste in your recycling bin/box or garden waste bin/bag that isn't meant to be there, the refuse collectors will not empty that container. Residents should check the contents of their containers and remove any items which shouldn't be there and present their container on the next scheduled collection day. If you persist in putting the wrong materials in your recycling or garden waste containers, we will send you an Official Warning and may take further enforcement action, including fixed penalties (£100) and possibly prosecution.
*Exceptions to this are flats with bulk rubbish collection arrangements, and a small number of households who have a bag collection.
