Advanced / specialist training

The Berkshire West Local Safeguarding Children Boards offer a full programme of advanced and specialist training for people who have completed universal safeguarding training and wish to learn more. Designated Child Protection Officer training

Designated Child Protection Officers are required to attend specialist training every two years.  We offer training for people new to the role as well as refresher training:

Online training

We do provide Universal Safeguarding refresher training online.  Please contact the Learning and Workforce Development Team for log in details.

We highly recommend that new staff attend a face-to-face training session and use the online training for refresher training only.

Refresher courses

You should refresh your universal safeguarding children training every three years and can do this online. Please contact the Learning and Workforce Development Team for a login to the online training system.

If you are a designated child protection officer, you must refresh your training every two years.

How to apply

For a place on a universal and designated officer course:

Once you have found a suitable course, use our training application form to apply for a place.  Please complete a separate application for each person and course.

We will confirm your place by email and send course joining instructions two to three weeks before the start date.  If you have not heard from us two weeks before the course, contact us to check you have a place.

If a course is already full, we will offer you an alternative date.  If this is not possible we will add your name to a waiting list.
