Reading Station Upgrade: Exhibition Of Proposed Changes To Town Centre

Reading Station improvement concept

Reading Station improvement concept

A series of exhibitions are planned over the next few weeks to outline changes to town centre traffic flows linked to the expansion of Reading Station.

The Council's proposals are for a world class station building which will create a major new gateway into Reading and improved access to the station and its facilities, including the public transport interchange.

The new Reading Station concourse is intended to complement Network Rail's multi-million pound upgrade of rail lines in Reading. The upgrade will eventually see more trains running through Reading, more passenger capacity, reduced delays and less overcrowding at the station.

Plans for the new southern station entrance and concourse for Reading Station were approved at planning committee last month. The new station building and facilities will extend across Station Approach and will include a large pedestrianised area, meaning the closure of Station Approach which is currently used by buses, taxis and cycles.

This means roads located around the station will need to be reconfigured with bus, taxi, cycle, coach and drop-off interchange facilities in the area reorganised.

Using the links below, you can download plans showing proposed waiting and traffic movement restrictions to the South East Interchange and Town Centre.

You can aso download documents showing what the new Reading Station building could look like, how the network of roads near to the station will be reconfigured, proposals for a Northern Public Transport Interchange and how the proposed new concourse fits into the wider rail upgrade scheme, as well as provisional timescales for the project.
