Street Naming & Numbering
We are responsible for the naming and numbering of new streets and properties within the Borough boundaries. See our street naming and property numbering protocol document [152kb] for more information on how we make decisions.
We charge £40 to change an address and £230 to change a street name. New addresses include conversions of existing properties into smaller units.
Fill out our online street naming and numbering form. Once we receive your request, we will evaluate the plans and work out the cost for the service. For more information on how we make our decision, read our street naming and numbering protocol document [152kb].
It usually takes us four weeks from when we receive your request to register a new address. If this includes the creation of a new street, then this usually takes three months. When we have registered your address, we will inform important Council services, the Emergency and Health Services and the Land Registry.
You will not have an official address or postcode. This might mean:
- You do not receive your post
- You have problems with utilities and telephone lines
- The emergency services cannot contact you
- You have trouble accessing Council services.
Yes, we welcome your suggestions. If you have an idea for a new street or site name, fill out our street naming suggestions form. We will forward your suggestions onto Planning Applications Committee - this process usually takes between three months.
