Accessible Reading
To avoid accessibility difficulties in our Town Centre Reading Borough Council have produced an access guide to help make the most out of the town. It contains information on accessible transport, parking, shopping, toilets and leisure facilities. It also provides a list of useful contact details.
Although the council's Access Guide has been produced primarily for the benefit of people with disabilities, we hope that anyone who may have mobility difficulties, for any reason, will find it useful.
We are all aware of the difficulties of adapting an historical town for modern use and making sure that it is accessible for all without losing its original character. However, by identifying potential barriers, we hope that people will feel more confident and comfortable finding their way around the town with all it has to offer.
The Council works very closely with Reading's Access Forum and has its own access officer. The Forum works to promote better access for all in the town and new members are welcome to this group. We also insist that our website designers always comply with industry standard accessibility guidelines. We believe that our sites are accessible to all, including the visually impaired.
