London 2012 Games

London 2012

Friday 27 July – Sunday 9 September

More than 14,000 athletes from 220 nations will be competing in the London Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer. Although most events will take place in London, some are happening at other locations, and we’re lucky to have the Team GB rowers training at The Redgrave–Pincent Rowing Lake in Caversham, and they’ll be competing at Dorney Lake near Windsor, which isn’t far away.

But you don't need to leave Reading to enjoy the excitement of the Games.

THE OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY

Lit in Greece, the Olympic Flame arrives in the UK on 18 May 2012.

Representing peace, unity and friendship, the Flame will be carried by 8,000 inspirational Torchbearers during the Olympic Torch Relay.

As it makes its way across the UK on a 70-day journey it will bring the excitement of the Games to everyone - and it's coming to Reading!

We're excited and proud to be selected as one of only 66 areas in the UK which will host the Olympic Flame and an evening celebration event as part of this journey around the UK.

The torch will be coming to Reading, from Oxford, on Tuesday 10 July before making its way to The Madejski Stadium for the evening celebration. The following morning, Wednesday 11 July, the torch will leave the town as it starts its journey to Salisbury.
