Work experience with Reading Borough Council

We are currently reviewing our approach to Work Experience and as a result we are not accepting application forms at this time. We will provide further details in the autumn.

We are committed to supporting the personal and social development of local young people and recognise that work experience gives young people the chance to learn and prepare for working life.

During a work experience placement with us, you will:

  • learn about working life and the skills required by employers
  • raise your awareness of skills you may wish to develop
  • gain an insight into a large public sector organisation
  • build on your skills and knowledge and gain confidence
  • develop team-working, self-reliance and flexibility skills
  • develop vocational skills and improve job opportunities

We’re looking for people who are keen to learn and willing to get stuck in and try new things. You don’t need to have had a job before, but a polite and friendly personality is essential. We are particularly interested in applications from those looking to pursue a career in the public sector.

Next steps

Once you have submitted your application form, our Organisational Development and Learning Team will contact the relevant managers to see if they can offer you a placement.

We will send you an email within 30 days to let you know if we’ve can offer you a placement or not.

Please note we receive a large amount of applications throughout the year and there are always instances where we are unable to accommodate work experience requests. Due to demand priority will be given to those living or attending an educational establishment in Reading and the immediate surrounding area.
