The Register Office's Ceremony Room is located on the ground floor in the newly refurbished and purpose-designed part of Reading Museum and Town Hall. Couples wishing to marry in our Ceremony Room will need to make a provisional booking with the Reading Registration Service team and give their Notice of Marriage stating they would like to marry at the Reading Museum and Town Hall.

Please see our fees and charges page for a full breakdown of fees for the new ceremony room.

The room can hold 47 guests seated and 10  people standing. However, due to social distancing measures, the number of guests will be restricted to two witnesses when ceremonies resume. There is no current date set for ceremonies to recommence.

One parking permit is available for spaces marked "TC4" in Valpy Street on the side of the Town Hall building. This permit is available 15 minutes before the ceremony and must be returned directly after the ceremony. The permit is collected from and returned to the Town Hall Reception. The driver will be required to leave their driving licence, vehicle keys or a returnable £20 cash deposit. Please note that a parking space in zone TC4 is not guaranteed. Please, consider alternative public parking arrangement, in case all TC4 spaces are occupied. There are numerous car parks across the town for use by your guests.

Booking a ceremony elsewhere in the Town Hall

If you would like exclusive use of a room (no ceremonies directly before and after, plus time to decorate and arrange the room) at the Town Hall for your wedding, please contact the Events team to check their availability. You will also need to book registrars to attend to conduct and register your wedding. Please note there is a fee for registrars to attend and register your wedding.

The Register Office offers a range of classical music for weddings; however, you are welcome to bring your own music. As required by the marriage planner, please include your music selection, taking into consideration that religious music is not allowed in civil marriages.

Length of ceremony

Marriages in the Register Office's ceremony room will take 15 to 20 minutes and we ask the couples and guests to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start. This is to allow the smooth and timely running of all the ceremonies on the day.

Access for wheelchairs

Access is available through the main entrance to the Town Hall.
