COVID-19 information for people attending inquests

We have had to put several restrictions and procedures in place to ensure that both you and our staff are protected.

Note, only two members of family can attend from the same household.

The inquest will be adjourned if more than two family members attend.

If you are attending an inquest, please plan to arrive at Reading Town Hall at least 10 minutes before the inquest start time and make yourself known to reception. Our court officer will greet you and take you to the correct court room. If you are running late on the day, please contact the office on 0118 937 2300.

If you need to cancel your attendance, have any concerns or if someone in your household is showing symptoms of COVID-19, please contact the Coroner's Office on coroner@reading.gov.uk.

For your own, and our staff's, safety please remember the following:

  • Do not attend if you are unwell, or you or another member of your household have had any symptoms of illness (particularly fever or cough) within the past 14 days.
  • It is now mandatory to wear a face mask or covering in the public areas of courts, but not within the courtroom itself.
  • Please maintain a distance of 2 metres from other people.
  • Please use the hand sanitisation facilities throughout the building
  • A one-way system will be in place, which must be followed at all times.
  • Please bring your own refreshments, including water as we are unable to provide them to you.
  • Please take any tissues or other litter with you when you leave or use the bins provided.

Inquests are public hearings - up to two members of the press may be in attendance.
