How to access your Council Tax account

Our electronic billing system is simple to use, will save you time and gives you greater control of your bills and payments.

Once you have authenticated your account, you can sign into your Council Tax online account to:

  • view or update your account information
  • check your balance, payments, bills, and recovery notices
  • manage your paperless billing options
  • update your contact details
  • manage payment arrangements
  • amend/apply a direct debit
  • apply for a single person’s discount

Before you can sign up for electronic billing you will need to sign in or register for an account.

Over 50,000 people in Reading pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit. It’s the easiest way to pay every month. We accept payments on 1st, 8th, 15th or 25th of the month. Sign up today.

You can pay using our online payment system.

You can call our 24 hour payment line on 0300 456 0543. Calls are charged at 3 pence per minute, plus your phone provider’s charges. All cards except American Express and Diners Club International are accepted.

Use your swipe card or the barcode on the front of your bill to pay at any Post Office or Paypoint. Call 0118 937 3727 if you need to order a new swipe card.

All payments are due on the 1st of the month, unless otherwise stated. Payments should be received on or before the date they are due. Please allow 3-5 working days for your payment to reach your account.

You have the right to extend your instalments so that they are payable over the full financial year. If you wish to extend your instalments to March please contact the Council Tax helpline on 0118 937 3727.
