Strathy Close Day Centre

Strathy Close Day Centre is home to an Adult Learning Disability Service run by Reading Borough Council. The service offers a programme of interactive, sensory and physical activities that help develop independence. The centre provides a variety of facilities which include an accessible garden and a purpose built sensory space.

During evenings and weekends, the centre is available for hire to individuals, clubs and organisations.

How to find us

Strathy Close Day Centre is situated in Norcot just behind The Dee Road Estate. The nearest bus routes are: Number 15 & 15a which provide a regular service throughout the day. The bus stops you need to use are called: Ranikhet or Brisbane Road.

Please note: if you are travelling by car, there is very limited parking available at the centre due to its location, therefore we advise travelling by bus or getting a taxi.

Hiring this venue

The Centre is available for hire Monday – Friday 4pm – 10pm; Saturday – Sunday 9.30 am– 11pm.

The person hiring this venue must be at least 21 years of age and we may ask for evidence of age. All three rooms hold 100 people.

All three rooms must be hired together.

You will need to pay a £100 deposit in accordance with the terms and conditions below. The deposit is a separate charge from the private function rates of each room:

Business rate:

  • All three rooms £27.49 per hour

Charity and private function rate:

  • All three rooms £16.26 per hour

Voluntary linked to RBC rate:

  • All three rooms £13.74 per hour

The kitchen is included in the room hire costs.

You will be subject to a security fee of £25 + VAT per booking, or £50 + VAT for public and bank holidays.

For one-off bookings there is an additional charge of 11% on the hire cost for Public Liability Insurance.

This is a non-smoking building, including vaping and e-cigarettes. This includes the grounds of the property, smoking must be outside of the property.

Supporting information

Some events may need you to send in extra information. Please see the list below:

  • Evidence of Public Liability Insurance at a minimum indemnity of £5million
  • A copy of your safeguarding policy if you are running activities for people under 19
  • A food hygiene certificate if you plan to serve food to the public
  • If you are planning to sell alcohol at your event, you need to obtain a Temporary Events Notice
  • A copy of your adults safeguarding policy if you are running sessions which may have vulnerable adults attending
